Who Should Attend & Requirements

Who Should Attend

Hawaii Lava Flow © Moose PetersonDLWS is for the beginner who has played with their camera and has the desire to perfect rather then play at the controls. DLWS is for the beginner who has opened Photoshop and was scared to death by all the tools, palettes and commands. DWLS is for the intermediate photographer who has explored their camera and Photoshop and want to get more out of them then just the “here I was shot.” DLWS is for those who have their sight set on perhaps taking the photography to a whole new level either for their art or making a profession from their camera. DLWS is for those who simply have a passion and want to explore new avenues to express it. DLWS will challenge your visual communicating skills no matter your level of expertise, and help you with those challenges!

Rapids © Moose PetersonDLWS is not for the beginner who doesn’t know the basics of their camera body. If you don’t understand the difference between an aperture and shutter speed, then you won’t get all your bang for your buck. If you’ve never cracked open Photoshop, you might not get all we’re trying to teach. Even though we have a minimum of 7 Photoshop lessons starting with the most basic and going to the most advance, you need to have at least played with Photoshop to get the most out of DLWS. DLWS is not for the technically challenged photographer. DLWS is not for the photographer who can’t roll with the punches--life has no guarantees and while we do the best we can 100% of the time, that doesn’t mean things don’t happen that simply shouldn’t. The guy running this thing isn’t perfect, don’t expect it.

DLWS is for the digital photographer who wants to explore this exciting and new medium, have fun and their passion fullfilled. We are after capturing passion with every pixel. We will introduce you to a whole lot of new concepts and techniques and we guarantee some of them will be WAY over your head. But you know, if someone doesn’t show you the possibilities, even give you a road map, how will your photography ever grow? We see and have designed DLWS to be only a starting point in this pursuit. We want YOU to leave DWLS desiring, no demanding more from your photography. We hope to give you the inspiration, tools and passion to accomplish that!

Required to Attend DLWS

Battery Point Lighthouse © Moose PetersonWe have a vision, goal and purpose to what we want to enlighten, inspire and teach you at DLWS. To meet these passions, we have requirements of what we need YOU to bring to DLWS.

  • Digital SLR camera & lens (point & shoots won’t cut it) is required. We don’t care what brand, but we are Nikon shooters and are a Nikon sponsored event. We have a huge locker of loaner Nikon gear to offer the Nikon shooter. If you shoot with Nikon, we can help you out with other lenses & bodies. If you shoot with other brands, that’s just fine but just keep in mind you have to come self reliant (you too can check out a Nikon system and give it a drive).
  • Notebook computer is a must. This can’t be your uncle’s cousin twice removed notebook built in 1992 folks.
  • Loaded in your computer must be Photoshop CS2. This is a requirement. You don’t have to know Photoshop or have mastered it, but you must own it and have it loaded on your notebook. Elements is not enough. You must also have a Raw processing program if you shoot Raw and a program such as DigitalPro or Adobe Bridge to preview and sort your images.
  • Minimum of 1GB of memory for your camera.
  • Tripod
  • CCD cleaning kit
  • Read the Participant Worksheet, read the Participant Worksheet and then, read the Participant Worksheet
  • Have an open mind to be taken to a whole new level, to concepts that might be way over your head for the moment. With this, we WILL open up a whole new world of photography to you.
  • A sense of humor!

Folks joining us at a DLWS event HAVE to meet us half way. We aren’t in the position nor are we going to try to be everything to everyone. You have to take responsibility for yourself, your own camera gear and notebook and come prepared to learn, be pushed and have fun.
